Great Vietnamese spot! It made my stomach happy and tasted very traditional. The vermicelli bowl was great and the stir fry also. The owner was cooking and greeting guests, it felt like a little gem of a Vietnamese spot. Super friendly and they made it easy to ask what dishes were like. They refilled water very constantly and the restaurant was very clean.
First time at Lang Van! Parked and got seats around 5 PM easily on a Thursday night. Soon after, it was packed! The menu is huge - the staff member kindly said, “Take an adventure with me?” and after saying we eat anything and everything - gave us lovely recommendations. Started with Crispy Quail appetizers - delicious like roast duck. The sauce was the ticket though! Then, we had beef, meatball, and tripe pho and a stir fried seafood dish with thick noodles. Every dish was flavorful and split between two people - and we took leftovers home! The total ended up around $70.00 with the tip. We really enjoyed our experience and I’m looking forward to going back!
I’m not sure there is a night of the week that Charlotte does not go out! We went on a Tuesday night, braving the traffic and a 40 minute wait for a table. It was so cute and festive inside! There were two sides with maybe 16-18 tables. We tried some staples- a vermicelli bowl, pho, and spring rolls. The rolls were hot, crispy and delicious. The pho was good- I am used to places with a greater quantity of toppings, but what came with it was adequate. The vermicelli bowl was good- nice and light and fresh tasting. We enjoyed our trip there, but maybe will try for an off time or lunch rather than peak dinner time!
Saw this place with good ratings and wanted to check it out before leaving Charlotte. The ambiance and decor seemed very fitting for an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. They had a lot of options from different regions that you don’t normally see at every restaurant. Our checked on us frequently and helped answer some questions. I had to the Vietnamese coffee because it’s the best. We also shared the fresh spring rolls, beef pho and broken rice with pork chop and egg quiche. Spring rolls weren’t the best, it barely had vermicelli noodles in it and mostly veggies. The sauce was mostly hoisin and didn’t have that distinct peanut flavor that I’m used to. The pho was lacking a bit of depth in the broth although the noodles and meat were cooked well. I think what I enjoyed the most was the rice dish with pork chop. While I do think the food is authentic, I did find it lacking in some flavor on some of the dishes.
Our party of 7 had a 2:30 reservation on Christmas Day. Amazingly we sat at the large round table. I got a Lucky Buddha Beer and the 112, a cominat with crispy egg noodle. See my photo for the ingredients. I would get it again even though their menu is massive. You can just order food you want if the menu is intimidating. The staff is friendly. Decent parking lot. A Charlotte treasure.
The food was good. The summer rolls tasted fresh and had a good amount of shrimp. I hadn’t had carrots in the peanut sauce before and while it was different, it proved a twist I didn’t hate with the appetizer. The pho was ok. I agree with those who said it lacked depth, however, there was plenty of meat, noodles, and (for me at least) fresh herbs to go with the entree. I will say you will probably never get better service at an Asian restaurant. The place was packed and yet the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. We had to wait for 20 minutes as the spot is small. Several staff members apologized and did their best to seat us as fast as they could. I even received a small pitcher of sweet tea so my glass was never less than half full. A guy was designated to only fill waters so my friend ab and I could barely get a sip in before he refilled our glasses. Parking was extremely limited so we were a bit nervous about our spot but it worked out and in the end it was a good experience! I would likely go back- just not get the pho next time and maybe try around lunch so it’s not so packed!
